SAPRI’S HISTORY

The city of Sapri has very ancient origins and is considered the heart of the Gulf of Policastro. In Roman times the bay and its hinterland were held in high regard. Sapri is  known for Carlo Pisacane's tragic expedition of June 28, 1857,  organized in Genoa by himself, was intended, in to foster the outbreak in Naples and Salerno, followed by Sicily, of the anti-Bourbon revolution as part of the struggle for Italian unity.

Sapri is the most populous town in the Gulf of Policastro, it is the last inhabited center in the Campania region before entering the Basilicata region. You can easily visit all of Sapri in just one day, what are you waiting for?

WHAT TO SEE IN SAPRI

The first place you should stop and visit is the Meteorological Astronomical Observatory built just under 100 years ago, in 1927 and 15 meters high located at the entrance to the city.

Sapri has two beautiful churches, San Giovanni Battista and the Madre dell’Immacolata Concezione Church in Piazza Plebiscito. Then stop at Sapri’s port, it’s a touristic port where you can book fun excursions by boat and go for a relaxing swim in the sea.
